What is this?
- Thanks to improvements in up-scaling technology and a burgeoning hardware and software modding scene, the Nintendo 64's legitimacy as a retro console has finally been given its due. This is an attempt to accurately document the 50 best gameplay experiences available for the system.
- Where possible, this list gives proper credit to the original title, developer, and box art of each game.
- All games listed (as well as several others which didn't quite make the cut) have been played to completion, and are judged on merit alone. Nostalgia, sales, historical relevance, nor any other extraneous factor was considered when compiling this list.
- In the interests of avoiding repetition and to include a variety of software, some titles include optional recommendations. The explanations for each are as follows:
- Alternatively = a game (just about) as good as that listed, so take your pick.
- Honourable mention = not as distinguished as the game listed, but offers a similar or alternative experience.
